Providing individual midwifery care for pregnancy, birth and beyond

I work closely with individual women to provide them with the information and support they need to make choices that are right for them.  Each appointment lasts for approximately an hour, and much of this time is spent developing a relationship based upon trust and respect , so that when birth begins you feel relaxed and confident in your own choices and your midwife. I also work closely with other independent midwives in the area so that additional midwifery support is available if required.

I regularly attend study days and make myself aware of current research to ensure my practice is based upon the most up to date evidence, and also share experiences with other midwives and women to enhance my learning.  I am registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and am a member of the Royal College of Midwives, the Association of Radical Midwives and the Independent Midwives Association.

I love being a midwife, and the sense of privilege I feel at being allowed to care for and support women and their families at such an important time in their lives never diminishes.

Please allow me to introduce myself; my name is Tracey Smith and I was inspired to become a midwife following the births of my own two children. My personal experiences of childbirth left me feeling empowered, with a strong belief in the ability of women to birth their babies, although I knew many others whose births had left them feeling powerless and traumatised.

This fired my passion for the art of midwifery, for being 'with woman' in order to help them achieve a positive experience of pregnancy and birth. After a short time of practicing within the NHS I realized that the only way I would be able to support women in this way was as an independent midwife.
