This poem, one of my favourites, sums up my view of midwifery rather well! Please click to read.
Initial Consultation

An initial visit to your home will be arranged in order for us to meet, to explore your individual needs and to discuss the most suitable type of care for you. It is very important that you are happy with your choice of midwife, and with the care on offer, as a positive birth experience relies strongly on a trusting relationship between you and your midwife.

Antenatal Care

Antenatal visits will normally take place within your own home, at a time convenient to you. During the first visit we will discuss your medical history and any previous births that may impact upon this pregnancy. Detailed information will be offered on antenatal screening tests and scans and, should you decide to proceed, these can be arranged either privately or through the NHS. We will consider your plans for this birth and agree upon a plan of care tailored to your individual needs. During subsequent visits, as well as ensuring the well-being of yourself and your baby, time will be spent exploring your hopes and feelings, and ensuring you have all the information you need to make informed choices about your pregnancy and birth.
As a basic guideline, visits will take place monthly until 28 weeks, every two weeks until 36 weeks and then weekly until the birth.

Labour and Birth

You will receive my full care and support throughout your labour and birth, whether you choose to birth at home or in hospital. However, the extent of my role within a hospital is dictated by local policies, and in the majority of cases I would be present as an additional birth partner and advocate.

Postnatal Care

You will receive regular visits following the birth of your baby. Initially visits will be daily to ensure both of you are well and to provide emotional support for you and your family. You will be offered the time and assistance you need to ensure feeding is well established. The timing of further visits will be flexible to suit your needs, but regular contact will continue for six weeks after the birth.

Additional Services

If the services on offer do not meet your requirements, I am more than happy to discuss alternative options on an individual basis.

Geographical Area Covered

As a general rule, I am happy to travel for approximately an hour. This covers most of Yorkshire, Darlington & The Dales, Durham, Teesside and Northumberland. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact me .......
